Rain Barrel Giveaway at Chappetto Square

District 22 Council Member Costa Constantinides is partnering with Senator Michael Gianaris and Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas to host a rain barrel giveaway at Chappetto Square (Hoyt Avenue and 23rd Street) on Saturday, July 28th, starting at 10 am.

To RSVP, email mcorbett@council.nyc.gov by Monday, July 23rd. Reserved barrels will only be held until noon. After that, the free barrels will be distributed a first come, first serve basis.

Installing a rain barrel is a something any homeowner can do, not only to ease strain on New York City’s water system but also to capture stormwater before it can enter the sewer system and thereby reduce combined sewer overflows (CSOs) into local waterways like the East River.  The barrels can be connected to a downspout to capture and store the stormwater that falls on the rooftop. The water collected in the rain barrel can then be used  in lawns and gardens.
