The Ravenswood Community Learning Center recently opened its doors in Long Island City, following a collaborative effort between the Queens Public Library and the NYC Housing Authority to revamp an old space on 21st Street. Aimed at providing crucial resources to the NYCHA residents there, the center is equipped with a computer lab, classrooms, and a lounge area, but focuses more on services than on books. It offers workforce development, digital literacy workshops, and one-on-one case management, among other resources.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to support job readiness and includes special programs for recently incarcerated individuals, emphasizing the center’s role in offering second chances and reducing crime through education and employment support.
