Kayaking at Hallets Cove Brings Neighbors Together
This past Saturday, July 20th, local residents had a chance to enjoy free kayaking at Hallets Cove — right here on the Astoria waterfront. Organized by the Long Island City Community Boathouse, the event welcomed people of all ages to get out on the water and experience the East River in a whole new way.
Volunteers helped participants with gear and basic instructions. No reservations were needed — just walk up, sign in, and paddle out. It was simple, safe, and fun — and a reminder of how valuable our waterfront can be when it’s open and accessible to the public.
At OANA, we’ve always supported efforts to improve parks and recreational spaces. These places aren’t just amenities — they help bring people together and play a real role in building a healthier, more connected neighborhood.
Events like this show what’s possible when community groups, volunteers, and local residents work together to activate public space. Whether it’s a park, a field, or the shoreline, we believe these areas should serve the people who live here.
If you missed this weekend’s kayaking, don’t worry — the LIC Community Boathouse offers similar events throughout the summer at Hallets Cove and Anable Basin. Schedules are posted as dates are confirmed, so we encourage you to check their website for the latest updates: licboathouse.org.
