Demolition Complete for New Public School in LIC
Demolition has been completed at 23-10 43rd Avenue in LIC, clearing the way for a new six-story public school building.
The project will provide approximately 90,000 square feet of educational space for 550 students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. The school will also include a District 75 special education program serving students with significant disabilities.
Plans for the new facility include modern classrooms, a library, cafeteria, flexible gymnasium/auditorium, and dedicated spaces for music and art. A rooftop play area is also planned.
The former five-story office building has now been fully demolished and cleared. Excavation has not yet begun, and an official construction timeline has not been released.
The new school will be located just steps from the Court Square, adding much-needed classroom space to the growing Long Island City neighborhood and helping meet the area’s increasing demand for public school seats.
