$1 Million Investment Announced for Steinway Street
Great news! Queens Borough President Donovan Richards has announced a $1 million investment to enhance safety and beautify Astoria’s Steinway Street, focusing on new decorative street lighting and improved mid-block crosswalks.
The investment was announced at a press conference featuring CB1 Chair Evie Hantzopoulos, Steinway Astoria Partnership Executive Director Marie Torniali, and OANA President Richard Khuzami, along with BP Richards, who emphasized safety and making the corridor more inviting for residents at night.
The project aims to strengthen Steinway’s role as a vibrant commercial corridor by improving visibility, encouraging foot traffic, and supporting small businesses. Crucially, raised crosswalks will also be added to calm traffic and make the street more pedestrian-friendly.
OANA applauds this commitment to revitalizing Steinway Street and looks forward to seeing these improvements make Steinway more enjoyable for all residents.
