Join Your Community Board: Apply Now for an Opportunity to Shape Queens’ Future

Queens, NY – Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. is excited to announce the opening of the 2024 Community Board Application. In an effort to foster active civic participation, the Office is inviting enthusiastic individuals to apply for positions on one of the 14 Community Boards in Queens.

Community Boards are vital to the democratic process, giving a voice to neighborhoods across Queens. Each of the 14 boards includes up to 50 volunteers serving two-year terms. Members, appointed by the Borough President and partly nominated by City Councilmembers, are tasked with advising on key local issues, particularly in land use and zoning.

These boards significantly contribute to discussions and decisions affecting their districts. Their responsibilities include attending monthly meetings, participating in hearings, and providing recommendations on the city budget and municipal services. To be eligible, applicants must be at least 16 years old and have a genuine interest in serving their community.

This is a unique opportunity for residents to engage directly in the governance of their neighborhoods and play a role in shaping the future of Queens.
