A Staple Has Been Sold: Major Astoria Development Site Goes for $26 Million

A former staple of the community has been sold. The former Staples site at 24-41 31st St. has been sold to Vaja Group for $26.4 million, with the site already zoned for a mixed-use development of up to 108 apartments, approximately 14,000 square feet of retail space, and parking. The proposed project could total nearly 150,000 square feet. No construction permits have been filed yet.

The purchase is particularly significant because Vaja Group also owns the former Neptune Diner site immediately to the south. The two properties could potentially be combined into a larger development, though that has not been confirmed.
