Legal Challenge Halts 31st Street Bike Lane Project
According to a recent QNS article, the State Supreme Court has issued a temporary injunction preventing NYC DOT from installing protected bike lanes on 31st Street.
Last July, the Old Astoria Neighborhood Association (OANA) issued an op-ed opposing this proposal unless critical safety conditions were met. We have since updated our statement to also call for a school safety zone for St. Demetrios School, ensuring that students and staff are protected.
The court has issued a show cause public hearing set for September 22, where the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) must respond to the legal challenge filed by the 31st Street Business Association. We encourage all to attend.
You can read our full, updated op-ed here: Safety for All on 31st Street Requires More Than a Bike Lane
OANA continues to support improvements that make our streets safer for everyone—pedestrians, cyclists, schoolchildren, businesses, and drivers—through proper traffic controls, enforcement, and delivery access solutions.
This op-ed was published in the National Herald here.
