Con Ed Starts Work on New “Reliable Clean City” Project
The project kicked off on April 18 and aims to connect the Vernon Substation near the LIC waterfront to the Newtown Substation at 35th Street and 47th Avenue with a new 200-megawatt transmission line. It will cost $125 million and plans to wrap up in Summer of 2026. A key feature of the Clean Reliable City project is that it will help shut down a fossil fuel power plant and improve air quality for residents in the area.
Residents living along the construction route—Vernon Boulevard, 40th Avenue, 34th Street, 37th Avenue, and 43rd Street—should expect periodic street work, detours, and construction noise as the project progresses.
