Christmas Tree Recycling and Mulching at Astoria Park
NYC Parks’ will be running its annual Mulchfest rover the next couple weeks, offering an opportunity for Astoria residents to recycle their Christmas trees.
From December 26, 2025 through January 11, 2026, trees can be brought to Astoria Park at the 19th Street and Hoyt Ave entrance, where they will be recycled into mulch which will be used in parks and street trees across New York City. Astoria Park is a chipping site, meaning trees are processed on location during scheduled chipping hours.
Chipping takes place on Saturday, January 10 and Sunday, January 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. During those hours, residents can watch their tree get chipped and take home a free bag of mulch their backyard or window gardens and pants.
Please remove all decorations from the trees and only bring those of the natural variety!
