Street Renamed for Betty Jean DiBiaso

A light post at the intersection of Ditmars Blvd and 19th now bears the name of Betty Jean DiBiaso Way that’s a tribute to a young woman who was killed by a hit-and-run driver in June 2015. In a street co-naming ceremony, family, friends and community leaders paid tribute to the victim. Betty Jean’s death inspired Council Member Costa Constantinides to petition the city’s Department of Transportation to introduce traffic-calming measures to the street in and around Astoria Park, a park that was dearly loved by Betty Jean, according to her family and friends.
