Halletts Point Waterfront Esplanade Now Open to the Public
OANA is excited to share that the Halletts Point Waterfront Esplanade, a 58,000-square-foot public space, is open to the public. Developed by The Durst Organization in partnership with Starr Whitehouse Landscape Architects, this esplanade transforms a previously inaccessible stretch of the East River into a beautiful place for all to enjoy.
The esplanade features a great view of the Manhattan skyline, a nautically themed playground, picnic areas, and lots of seating. Featuring more than 70 trees and 700 native and adaptive plants, it provides visitors with a year-round connection to nature.
In a recent op-ed, The Durst Organization highlighted how this project reconnects the Astoria community to its waterfront, opening a stretch of shoreline that has been inaccessible for decades and providing an immersive connection to nature.
OANA welcomes this development as a significant step in enhancing public access to Astoria’s waterfront and fostering a stronger sense of community.
