NYC Wins Crucial Grant to Build Largest Municipal Curbside EV Charging Network

Mayor Eric Adams announced a $15 million federal grant awarded to New York City to develop the nation’s largest curbside electric vehicle (EV) charging network. This initiative will result in the installation of 600 Level 2 chargers, significantly enhancing access across the five boroughs, with a focus on disadvantaged and low-income neighborhoods, including areas in Astoria and Queens.
The expansion builds on a pilot with Con Edison and is part of the city’s “Green Rides” initiative, which aims for all for-hire vehicles to be electric by 2030. Additionally, the city plans to introduce 32 solar-powered charging ports in various parks across the city.
This project claims it will help reduce an estimated 8,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually—an important step in helping combat climate change.
