NHL & NHLPA Award $2.5 Million Grant to Transform Help Transform VBGCQ
In recent emails from the Variety Boys and Girls Club of Queens, we learned of a major investment set to reshape youth programming in Queens. The National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players’ Association have awarded a $2.5 million grant to the club through the Industry Growth Fund.
The funding will support the construction of a new community clubhouse in Astoria—designed as a safe, inclusive space for young people and families. A key feature will be a dedicated hockey innovation space, expanding access to programming, mentorship, and resources.
“For more than a century, the NHL has believed that our responsibility extends far beyond the rink,” said Bill Daly. “This grant is about investing in people, in neighborhoods, and in the future.”
Marty Walsh added that the project will have a lasting impact on youth across Queens, while Costa Constantinides noted the expansion could help serve more than 16,000 young people annually.
Construction is expected to begin later in 2026, with the facility poised to become one of the largest Boys & Girls Club sites in the country.
