The event is organized by Projekt NYC in collaboration with the Astoria Park Alliance. Volunteers will help clean up Astoria Park and plant flowers in preparation for spring! It’s a great opportunity to spend time outdoors, meet neighbors, and contribute to keeping our park clean and beautiful. Students are encouraged to participate and can receive volunteer hours. Volunteers are welcome to stay for the full two hours or stop by for any amount of time. The group will meet in Astoria Park near the top of the running track behind the Field House, weather permitting. Advance sign-up is required, and students must include parental permission when registering. Booker first worked at Socrates in the 1990s, experimenting with large-scale sculptural forms made from repurposed rubber tires. Her work has since become internationally recognized, and her return to the park marks a full-circle moment in the institution’s history. As part of the anniversary celebration, Booker will present two of her works, Serendipity (1998) and Gridlock (2008), reconnecting audiences with the bold sculptural language that helped define her practice.
