With renewed attention from City Hall, the project is once again moving into focus while bringing with it major questions about the future of Sunnyside, Woodside, and Long Island City. Community members will have the opportunity to learn more and ask questions at an upcoming town hall. The session will include a refresher on the Sunnyside Yard master plan, its history, and its current status. Attendees will also be able to engage directly with organizers and officials during a Q&A portion. Event Details Location: Sunnyside Community Services Date: Monday, April 6, 2026 Time: 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM Dinner: Provided Residents are encouraged to attend and stay informed as the project evolves. While some background materials—like earlier planning brochures—are being shared for context, officials note that details of the proposal may change significantly as planning continues. This meeting is a chance to better understand the scale of what’s being considered and to have a voice in a project that could shape the neighborhood for decades.

Booker first worked at Socrates in the 1990s, experimenting with large-scale sculptural forms made from repurposed rubber tires. Her work has since become internationally recognized, and her return to the park marks a full-circle moment in the institution’s history. As part of the anniversary celebration, Booker will present two of her works, Serendipity (1998) and Gridlock (2008), reconnecting audiences with the bold sculptural language that helped define her practice. Date: Thursday, June 4, 2026 Time: 6:30–9:30 PM Location: Spacetime C.C., 30-40 Vernon Boulevard, Long Island City The gala celebrates four decades of creative experimentation, ecological stewardship, and community engagement at Socrates Sculpture Park while supporting the park’s exhibitions, education programs, and free public programming.
