    The Furman Center of New York University is world-renowned for advancing research and debate on housing, neighborhoods, and urban policy.

    Western Queens is in the middle of passionate debate on these issues, important as they will affect our quality of life for decades to come.

    OANA is honored to present Mark Willis to offer an unbiased overview of these issues, so we as a community can make informed decisions.

    Bio:

    Mark A. Willis is the Senior Policy Fellow at New York University’s Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy. He has also served two years as interim executive director to lead Furman through a shift in it organizational structure.

    Before joining Furman, Mr. Willis was a Visiting Scholar at the Ford Foundation, working on research related to community development and housing finance reform. In his 19-year career in community development banking at JPMorgan Chase, Mr. Willis developed and oversaw the bank’s programs and products to help strengthen low- and moderate- income communities. Before joining Chase, Mr. Willis held various positions in economic development and tax policy with the City of New York, and from 1986 to 1989, he was Deputy Commissioner for Development of the Department of Housing Preservation and Development. Before joining the City, he was an urban economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He serves on the boards of a wide range of banking and community-oriented organizations. Over the years, Mr. Willis has written and lectured widely on such topics as affordable housing, national housing finance reform, and the Community Reinvestment Act. Mr. Willis has taught Housing and Community Development Policy at New York University’s Law and Wagner Schools. He has a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School and a Ph.D. degree in urban economics and industrial organization from Yale University.
