Delayed Opening for Charybdis Playground Bathrooms

NYC Parks Departments plan for renovating Charybdis Playground, phase 2 of Mayor DiBlasio’s Anchor Park Initiative, will include renovation of the Comfort Station. Because of this renovation, the facility will not reopen until 2020 (The completion of Phase 2). Initially closed because sewer lines were emptying directly into the East River and therefore had to be joined with the City’s sewer and waste treatment systems, it was slated to be reopened in 2019.

According to DNAInfo, “Under the plan, the rundown restrooms — which parents had previously described as “disgusting” — will be upgraded, and a small room will be added to the facility to house a Parks Department staff member.” They will also be make it ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant.
